Rodeo Booth a Success

July, 2012

Thank you to all that volunteered their time to once again organize and work at the food booth. We had another great year and everyone survived the weekend!

Wind Damaged Trails!

June, 2012

Mother Nature wreaked havoc on our trails this summer. With the 80-100km winds we experienced in June approximately 65 kms of the Duck Mountain bush trails were destroyed.

Appreciation Night a success!

Apr 15, 2012

Thank you to all the land owners, guests and volunteers that came out to the appreciation night. It was a great time had by all. We truly appreciate all the people that make our trail system possible. Special thanks to Bill for making sure the evening was a success.

Volunteer & Land Owner Appreciation

Apr 10, 2012

Without the great people of the Swan River Valley, we wouldn't have trails. The land owners, and municipal districts are great supporters of our trails by allowing us to cross their property. If we didn't have club volunteers we wouldn't exist. People don't realize how much work has to get done to have our trails up and running.

We would like to thank all the landowners and volunteers for helping to make this year such a success!

To show our appreciation we would like to invite all land owners and club volunteers for pizza and refreshments:

Saturday, April 14th

SV Museum Complex

3 - 7 pm.

Our work isn't done...

Mar 28, 2012

WOW what a winter, and it might not be over yet... remember last year's dump of snow on April 30th??

Anyone that can help with the removal of sticks and signs please contact a club executive member to see where help is needed. We should be removing them when the ground is still firm so we do not damage anyones property.

Next club meeting is on April 2nd. Come out and join us.

Our snow is gone

Mar 13, 2012

Please note that SVSA snowmobile trails are officially closed for the season due to the unseasonable warm weather and the sudden volume of water in ditches, creeks and low lying areas.

Finally dug out . . .

Mar 8, 2012

WOW what a pile of snow!! I think too many people were asking for it, so it all dumped at the same time. We should coordinate our requests...

Pine River got a nice amount, so the trail is in good shape there now. As well Benito - Madge Lake run is look'n fine! All other trails, the groomer has been running day and night to have them ready for you to ride... They are in great shape!

Weather is looking great for the weekend, maybe too great. If we hit the highs, this could be the last riding weekend. So make the most of it!

Also, don't forget to check out the pics from the 5th Annual Vintage Ride.

A Vintage of a day

Mar 3, 2012

Great time had by all... we had a lot of fun and great conversations today.

Over 40 vintage sleds attended and many more new sledders drooling over the old "hardware". There was even a Harley!

We had wings, hotdogs and refreshments. Sledders came from Roblin, Sifton, Dauphin and many locals. Thanks for the support.

More pics to follow.

Ready to Eat . . .

Feb 29, 2012

Only 3 more sleeps until the Relic Ride!

Weather is looking great, a balmy -4 with a possibility of light snow.

Remember if you need a closer staging area give Derek a call (204.734.0505). You can start in his yard, which is only 15 mile round trip from the shack.

A group of riders will be leaving the Westwood Inn staging area at noon if you prefer the longer ride. Or just arrive on your own schedule! Just remember. . . the vintage drivers' pots and the Chinese auction prizes will be drawn at approximately 2:00pm. So don't miss out on the prizes!!

Come out for a blast from the past, great conversations and good food! All sledders welcome.

Groomer Running!

Feb 22, 2012

The groomer is fixed and working hard again. Thanks to the guys that gave up their Louis Riel Day...

The Cowan loop has been done, with the trail to Wellman being done overnight tonight. Pending weather all trails will be groomed by the weekend.

Now if we could just order some of that white stuff to spruce up the trails...

Have you cleaned up Ol' Bessy? She is waiting to run next weekend... Gussy her up and get her out here for the Relic Ride" .

Groomer down...

Feb 18, 2012

The groomer has not been out this week due to mechanical issues. We apologize for the trails not being in tip-top condition.

The parts have arrived from Calgary, we will be working on it Monday, and hopefully be back out on the trails for Tuesday or Wednesday. Trails will be ready for the weekend! If anything changes, we will keep you posted...

Were you a good Valentine?

Feb 16, 2012

So did you buy that special someone something wonderful for Valentines? You got yourself in the good books? Good now you can RIDE all weekend...

We did get some trails groomed, but we have been having some groomer issues. However, we are working quickly to get the ole girl back on the trails.

The trails are in pretty good shape considering the heavy flow of traffic we have been experiencing. So if you are a trail rider, have no worries, there is lots of room and snow for all the sledders! There are even some virgin meadows out there if you know where to look. And in case time slipped away on you, it is a long weekend... you have an extra day to enjoy the snow.

Another reminder it's only 2 weeks until our 5th annual "Relic Ride" , on March 3, 2012. Even if you don't have a relic, come out and see the ones that are there.

Enjoy an afternoon of wings and reminiscing of the good ol' sledding days!

Snow joke, we have the white stuff

Feb 8, 2012

This week the wind has not been nice again! With the bit of fluff that came down on Sunday blowing around, the open trails are not in tip-top shape. Actually a few places are rough with drifting, but overall they are in pretty good shape considering the 30km/h wind! At least the temperatures forcast for this week are in a nice sledding zone. -10 to -18 range.

Grooming is currently taking place in the hills and covered trails. The open trails will be done as close to the weekend as possible, so they are in great shape for the weekend.

Saturday is the Benito Elks Poker Derby. Yes, those are the great guys that sponsor the warm-up shack in Benito. So if you are not heading out on the derby, be cautious in that area for a larger than usual traffic flow.

Also keep in mind our 5th annual "Relic Ride" is coming up on March 3, 2012. So blow the dust off those old machines and start tuning them up!

What are YOU waiting for??

Feb 2, 2012

Weather is beautiful, snow is here, trails are groomed, shacks are stocked... What more can a sledder ask for? If it's great trails you are looking for, Swan Valley is the place to be. We have "quick" open trails, winding scenic trails, "alley-oop" hilly trails, and many wayside meadows to play. Whatever your driving style there are trails here for you.

Due to the mild weather the groomer has been pulling some all-nighters to keep the trails in great shape. So if you are out late please be on the look out for the groomer.

Also, use caution on the north side of Thunder Hill. The RM of Swan River is clearing trees along and on our original trail. The trail has been redirected through a pasture. Be sure to stay on the new trail as there are many rocks off the trail. Watch for caution and speed limit signs.

Also just a note... Groomer guy didn't see a groundhog today... does that mean 6 more weeks of snow???

Sledders' Paradise

Jan 26, 2012

This past week the groomer was out and smoothing the trails for your enjoyment. Get out and enjoy them!

Weather is also looking great for the weekend. Don't miss the opportunity to ride; this years' season is too short!

Diehards say there are only two seasons: Winter and poor sledding weather. See you on the trails!

Great Snow Conditions!!!

Jan 13, 2012

Unlike other areas of Manitoba, we have LOTS of snow, with more being forecast for this weekend.

This past week we experienced windy conditions that wreaked havoc on our open area trails. However, bush trails are still in great shape.

The groomer will be out early next week to smooth out the field trails. What a great time to have a SnoPass... boy are those fields rough!!!

We have many places for eating, accommodations, and great trails. Why not plan a trip up to the Swan River Valley for some fun in the snow? Remember to check out our map sponsors and mention you are a sledder.
